A number of gigs have been announced for Whelan's over the coming months. Thank god too, we were really starting to get bored of The Academy hogging all the good gigs.

Hope Sandoval and the Warm Inventions are to play a special one off gig in Dublin before embarking on a full tour. The former Mazzy Star singer and her band play Whelan's on May 7th. Tickets priced €28 are expected to go on sale next week.

Portsmouth shoegazers Cranes will play Whelan's on April 17th. It will be the band's first Irish performance since 1992, when they played here supporting The Cure. Tickets priced €18 are on sale now.

Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are set to play Whelan's on Wednesday 14th April. The Chicago 9-piece brass outfit have also been confirmed to play this year's Sea Sessions festival in Bundoran in June. Tickets for the Dublin date are on sale now priced €23 plus booking fee
