Ireland's HMV operation is getting back into the swing of things, with this afternoon's news that three branches are to be reopened.

According to the Independent, the three in question are Dublin's Henry Street, Dundrum Shopping Centre and the Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick and it is understood that they'll be trading within weeks.

HMV's 16 Irish stores were closed earlier this year, with the loss of 300 jobs. Restructuring specialists Hilco purchased 141 branches in the UK for a fee reported to be €59m and revealed in April that it was in negotiations with various landlords about the possibility of reopening stores.

The future of Dublin's flagship HMV shop on Grafton Street seems a little more unclear at this point. The premises commands one of the highest rent figures on the street and the property owner is understood to be seeking a tenant, be that HMV or another business.

This news will be welcomed not only by punters, but by the music and movie distributors who found their options to sell DVDs and CDs severely reduced without HMV in operation.
