HMV is moving into new terrain, by not just distributing but also producing a record for the first time. The lucky band to nab this deal that allows them to stay label free with the financial backing of the music megastore is London based rock band The Boxer Rebellion.

This unprecedented move by HMV sees them become the lead outlet for the physical release of The Boxer Rebellion's second album, 'Union'. The four-piece rock band consisting of US vocalist Nathan Nicholson, Aussie guitarist Todd Howe and Brits Adam Harrison on bass and Piers Hewitt on drums, is on a mission "to find innovative and meaningful ways to distribute their music and engage directly with their fans, on their own terms."

HMV Grafton St Manager Gary Roche said, “We are delighted to be involved in this exciting new venture with The Boxer Rebellion. There are now so many different ways for fans to discover and purchase the music they love, and we see HMV's role as an enabler of choice in an increasingly multi-channel world, whether, as in the vast majority of cases, that means working with our longstanding supplier partners to promote their artists and music or, as in this case, collaborating directly with an exciting unsigned act."

The Boxer Rebellion will also be dropping into HMV on Grafton Street next Friday September 11th at 5.30pm, to meet fans and sign copies of the new album on the day of its release.
