Mitch Mitchell, who was the drummer for The Jimi Hendrix Experience, has been found dead in his Portland hotel room.
Mitchell was 61 and is said to have died of natural causes.
During his long career, he also played with John Lennon and Eric Clapton as well as Hendrix - who he performed with at the legendary Woodstock festival appearance in 1969.
Hendrix's step sister Janie described him as "a wonderful man, a brilliant musician and a true friend."
