Snoop Dogg seems to have had a bit of a spiritual experience while making his new record. The man formerly known as the Doggfather has announced that his first reggae album will be released under the name Snoop Lion and called Reincarnated.

Snoop says the whole project came about on a visit to, unsurprisingly, Jamaica where he had intended going in order to focus on a new rap album in isolation. However, he found himself so "deeply affected by the people of Jamaica" that he "wanted to leave Snoop Dogg behind and become Snoop Lion".

"I went to the temple and received the name Snoop Lion from the Nyabingi priest," he said in a statement. A documentary is set to accompany the album, chronicling the making of the record and Snoop’s experiences with Rastafarian culture.

You can catch the trailer for the documentary here. It debuts at the Toronto Film Festival next month so you should be able to see it soon after. As for the album, that release date is unknown but the first single, ‘La La La’ can be found here.
