Simon Cowell's all-star charity cover of R.E.M.'s 'Everybody Hurts' has broken sales records, selling 150,000 in the UK within two days of its release.

The song aims to raise money for the victims of the Haitian earthquake, with half of the proceeds going to The Sun's Helping Haiti Fund, and the rest of the Disasters Emergency Committee. Leona Lewis, Cheryl Cole, Susan Boyle, Kylie Minogue, Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams and Mariah Carey are among the 21 artists to sing on the cover.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said, "For it to sell over 100,000 copies in a day or two underlines once again the generosity of the UK and Irish public when called upon to help others."

Over in the UK, the single is set remove Owl City from the top of the charts after five weeks, as it's currently outselling the single 'Fireflies' by four to one. Whether it'll shift Jedward off the top of ours is a whole other story.
