The management group who look after metal act Gwar have announced that they will make a statement later today (March 24th) where they are expect to confirm that the band's founder and frontman Dave Brockie has died at the age of 50, as per TheMusic.com.au.

Multiple reports coming out of the band's native state of Virginia are stating that Brockie, whose alias in the band was Oderus Urungus, was found dead by his roommates at some time on Sunday afternoon or evening.

"I wish it was a joke", the band's bassist Chris Bobst, also a music writer for Style Weekly, said. "Everyone is in shock".

Quoted by the same publication, former Gwar member Mike Bishop paid tribute to his former colleague, saying: "Dave was one of the funniest, smartest, most creative and energetic persons I've known. He was brash sometimes, always crass, irreverent, he was hilarious in every way. But he was also deeply intelligent and interested in life, history, politics and art."

Gwar became notorious for their outrageous live shows over the course of their three decade history and wear also famous for the litany of fearsome prosthetics and costumes they wore on stage.

They were due to celebrate their 30th anniversary this year and last year released their 13th album Battle Maximus.
