It has been revealed in a new book called This Is A Call: The Life and Times of Dave Grohl that the Foo Fighters' man almost walked out on Nirvana in 1993. The book reveals that Nirvana was rife with tension around this time and the band had split into two distinct factions: Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic on one side, and Kurt Cobain and his wife Courtney Love on the other.

According to the book by author Paul Brannigan Grohl was enraged after overhearing Cobain criticise his drumming skills on a flight from Seattle to Los Angeles. Grohl is quoted in the book as saying: "Kurt was kinda f*cked up and I heard him talking about how shitty a drummer I was." Grohl then told Nirvana tour manager Alex McLeod that he wanted to leave the band, but McLeod calmed him down and Grohl recanted. Brannigan says he doubts Cobain was even aware of the incident.
