English musician Greg Lake has died at the age of 69.

The Dorset-born guitarist and bassist was best-known for fronting King Crimson and later for his work with prog rock supergroup Emerson, Lake & Palmer - but also for his Christmas song 'I Believe in Father Christmas'. He had been battling cancer before he died in London on Wednesday.

His manager confirmed his passing with a Facebook statement saying: "Yesterday, December 7th, I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer. Greg Lake will stay in my heart forever, as he has always been."

'I Believe in Father Christmas' reached number 2 in the UK charts upon its release in 1975.
