A musical based on the works of Abba, of course. Michael Jackson, excellent. Queen, why not? But Greenday?! Rumours of a stage adaptation of their 2004 album American Idiot have been confirmed, with the production set to run from September 4th to October 11th at the Berkley Repertory Theatre in California.

Apparently the band love the fact that the whole thing is a bit random, as Billie Joe Armstrong told the New York Times, "It doesn't make a lot of sense, but that's what I love about it. When people see it, it's going to be my wildest dream."

Tony Award winning Broadway director Michael Mayer is going to take the helm, who admitted that he had this Greenday project in mind during the time that he was directing his most famous musical, Spring Awakening. "Sometimes I really would say things like, 'Why can't this have a groove like Boulevard of Broken Dreams?'"
