Gold Panda has won the Guardian First Album Award for his album 'Lucky Shiner', beating off competition from the likes of Tinie Tempah, Marina & The Diamonds, Rumer, Delphic and Everything Everything.

The award celebrates the album deemed as the finest British debut by a panel of Guardian critics as well as other significant figures from the music industry.

The experimental electonic musician, who has not revealed his full name but goes by Derwin, recorded 'Lucky Shiner' entirely his aunt and uncle's living room in Essex. It has been widely acclaimed by critics since its release in October.

Last year's prize was won by The XX, whose debut album 'XX' also went on to take home the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.

Gold Panda has just announced a short Irish tour for this summer, stopping at the following venues:
June 8th – Auntie Annie’s, Belfast
June 9th – Roisin Dubh, Galway
June 10th – The Pavillion, Cork
June 11th – The Workman’s Club, Dublin
