This year's Electric Picnic festival is to receive investment from the UK's leading festival and events promoter. Festival Republic, co-owned by Live Nation and Gaiety Investiments, have been behind such iconic festivals as Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading and Leeds festivals so it's not a bad bunch to have supporting the country's most eclectic music and arts festival.
It may sound like it can only make the already fantastic festival better, but unfortunately this new deal means one of Ireland's biggest promotions groups, Aiken Promotions, will be bought out of their interest in the festival, making the investment seem sadly more like just another takeover by massive UK company.
Electric Picnic is set to take place in Stradbally from September 4th to 6th this year, as a three day multi-stage family event featuring its usual Body & Soul area, a large spoken word area, an arts & crafts field, theatre, comedy and a designated family campsite and kids area.
