Having spent most of the last year denying that Girls Aloud were to go their separate ways (which would have been a whole lot more believable if she didn't burst into tears) Cheryl Cole has admitted that she will embark on a solo career.

A spokesperson for the band confirmed the much rumoured split to BBC News, stating that it had not yet been determined which producers Cole might work with and that she has not, as yet, recorded any solo material. This despite the fact that unconfirmed reports had previously surfaced that the Geordie singer has been in the studio with Danish production duo Soulpower (the folks behind Destiny's Child & Whitney Houston) on an R'n'B style album.
"Until she has recorded music, we can't say who will be working on the record as we can't say at this stage what will make it past the idea stage."

The rest of the Girls Aloud are planning their own projects, from "music to acting to beauty to fashion" according to a spokesman.

Girls Aloud play The Odyssey Arena, Belfast, this week from the 28th to the 30th of April and The O2, Dublin on May 2nd and 3rd.
