George Michael's doctor has used the term "generally optimistic" to describe his patient's ongoing recovery from pneumonia which forced the former Wham front-man to cancel a number of dates on his current tour.

Michael was admitted to an Austrian hospital last month after cancelling a gig in the Vienna. The Daily Mirror has quoted Michael's doctor as saying that the singer in "doing well" but suggested that he might not be able to return to the UK for Christmas. "[It's] something that we are not in a position to decide. That must be decided in consultation with the patient", said Dr. Christoph Zielinski.

Fadi Fawaz, Michael's boyfriend, had spoken earlier this week of his optimism that George would be driving home for Christmas but he'll most likely have to stay another day (or two) in hospital.
