Some two hundred gardai will be on duty at this summer's concert series in the Phoenix Park. Security has been stepped up to ensure that the anti-social behaviour which marred last summer's Swedish House Mafia concert won't be repeated.

Gardai have developed a plan for policing the event with promoters Festival Republic, who are working the event on behalf of MCD.

The Swedish House Mafia concert last summer had a gardai presence of 160 but those on duty seemed powerless to tackle the sheer volume of complaints they received from members of the public as well as concertgoers. There were several arrests for assault at the concert and two men who attended the event later died of suspected drug overdoses.

Gardai say that they will exhibit a very low tolerance for public drinking and stringent security checks and searches will be in place.
