Pixies frontman Frank Blank has spoken out about the moment when he realised that bassist Kim Deal informed the band that she was quitting the Pixies.

"We were at a little coffee shop near the studio", Black told Rolling Stone magazine. "Kim walked in at some point and said, 'I'm flying home tomorrow.' She quit the band. It was an awkward moment. We didn't hug or shake hands or anything. Joey [Santiago] and I just stood up and said, 'Okay.' Then we had to get out of there, so we immediately went to a bar. I had to move from coffee to alcohol."

Deal has since been replaced by former Muffs and Pandoras bassist Kim Shattuck, whose backing vocals seem eerily similar to those of Deal - judging by the evidence of the recently released brand new Pixies song 'Bagboy' anyway.

You'll have your chance to see the new Pixies line-up in person when the band takes to the stage in the Olympia on November 18th.
