Florence + The Machine have been forced into the cancellation of shows in Spain and Portugal following Florence Welch sustaining a vocal injury. The recent Phoenix Park headliner says she heard "something snap" in her vocal cords and has been ordered to not sing for a week.

"Unfortunately, this means I will not be able to perform at Benicassim and Optimus Alive festival this weekend", reads a statement on the band's official website. "I am so sorry to all the fans, I was desperate to perform, but was told without question not to do so, so as to not do permanent damage. I hope I can make it up to you in the future, have an amazing time."

Adele has previously suffered from vocal cord issues. The multiple Grammy winner was forced to cancel a stretch of shows and have surgery for a vocal cord haemorrhage last year.
