One Direction's brand new video sees the boyband being put through their paces at the NASA Space Station in Houston, Texas.

Why? We're not entirely sure as the lyrics to 'Drag Me Down' don't  mention space (unless the song is about gravity – whoaaaahhhh. Mind blown, dudes), but it looks pretty cool. And let's face it – if you're in a boyband and you get the free run of NASA HQ for the day, you're going to grab it.

But it's not the first song to ever have a space-themed video, which got us thinking about the best of the others. You can see 8 of the best below; any glaring omissions? Let us know in the comments below.

1) Aerosmith – 'I Don't Want to Miss A Thing'

Taken from the soundtrack to 'Armageddon', of course, the video saw clips from the film interspersed with Steven Tyler and co. performing as mission control watch them on monitors before a big-ass space shuttle takes off behind them. Fun fact: Tyler's daughter Liv also stars in the film.

2) Foo Fighters - 'Next Year'

This pretty great video is a remake of the Apollo 11 mission - the first spaceflight to land humans on the moon - and uses stock footage from NASA intertwined with the band, who travel to the moon to plant a Foo Fighters flag. Also, you'd forget how different Dave Grohl looks without a beard.

3) Muse - 'Sing for Absolution'

Trust a band like Muse to go OTT.  This elaborate futuristic video depicts the band leaving Earth, which has succumbed to a new ice age, and attempting to travel to a 'Cryo Module' before they collide with an asteroid. All very deep and sci-fi.

4) Trentemoller - 'Moan'

Warning: this video - coupled with the song by Danish DJ/producer Trentemoller - is extremely sad and might make you cry, especially if you're a dog-lover. It's a fictional depiction of Laika, the first living creature to orbit the earth when she was sent into space by Russia in 1957. But… but… she must have been so lonely… and confused…  sob…

5) Other Lives - 'For 12'

This American band had a reasonably big hit with their song 'Tamer Animals' a few years back, but the video for this song - taken from the same album - is a particularly cracking one and depicts the band travelling to Mars. Really beautiful imagery and not a video you'd normally associate with this type of song, but it works beautifully.

6) Colonel Chris Hadfield - 'Space Oddity'

Well, you don't get space-themed videos more authentic than this. The American astronaut made headlines all over the world during his time on the International Space Station, tweeting pictures of our planet from his unique vantage point - and he also became the first human to record and film a music video while in orbit, too, with a haunting cover of - what else? - David Bowie's 'Space Oddity'.

7) The Police - 'Walking on the Moon'

Cheesy? Undoubtedly. But when you've got a song called 'Walking on the Moon', you might as well just go for it, tenuous links be damned. This video saw Sting and pals performing at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas - the very same place that One Direction filmed 'Drag Me Down', in fact.

8) The Darkness - 'I Believe in a Thing Called Love'

The Darkness certainly announced themselves as musical space cadets with this, their third single, in 2003. Again, we're not quite sure what the link between the lyrics of this song and space are - but the video is bloody good fun, so it's going on the list.
