US rock musician Gregg Allman died on Saturday at the age of 69, and fans, friends and peers of his have been paying tribute to him on sociail media.

Allman was best known for his work with The Allman Brothers Band, which he formed with his brother Duane (who died in a motorcyle accident in 1971) in 1969.  They had hits with songs like 'Ramblin' Man' and 'Midnight Rider', which was later covered by the likes of Joe Cocker and Willie Nelson.

Reports suggest that he died at home after a battle with liver cancer, having played his last gig in October 2016.

He was married numerous times - including to Cher, whom he had a son, Elijah, with - and is survived by his five children.
