Last year we told you about the collaborative project between super-producer Danger Mouse, Sparklehorse frontman Mark Linkous and cult film director Kevin Lynch, that was pulled due to an ongoing dispute with label EMI. The dispute with EMI was reportedly over Danger Mouse's mash up of the Beatles' White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album, called unsurprisingly, 'The Grey Album'. Since they represent Mark Linkous, EMI threatened to sue if the project, entitled Dark Night Of The Soul, was released.
Danger Mouse was not best pleased, and reacted by releasing Lynch's book of artwork that was to accompany the music along with a blank CD-R, while the thirteen track album mysteriously appeared online. Now, Danger Mouse has reportedly settled his dispute with EMI and hope to release the project this summer. Better late than never, eh?
Speaking to the BBC, Danger Mouse said, “The problems of last year are last year, so hopefully it will be out soon in June or something like that.”
Dark Night of the Soul is packed full of big names including members of The Flaming Lips, Super Furry Animals and The Strokes. It'll be nice to see it get a proper release.
