It would have been a live collaboration for the ages - but despite the rumours, it was not to be.

Elton John closed Glastonbury last night with a bang, with his two-hour set - possibly his last-ever show in England, as he revealed - including his biggest hits, from 'Your Song' to 'I'm Still Standing' and 'Candle in the Wind'.

Several guest performers were promised ahead of the show, with Elton's partner David Furnish promising a host of young names - as well as alluding to one 'older' guest.

Many people took this to mean that there was a possibility that Britney Spears - who collaborated with John on 'Hold Me Closer', a re-worked version of 'Tiny Dancer', earlier this year.

However, it was not to be and instead the 'older' guest was revealed to be Killers frontman Brandon Flowers, who duetted with John on 'Tiny Dancer'.

Needless to say, there was a faction of fans who were unamusingly impressed by Britney's absence - and some funny tweets, too.
