Charmers, the new back fronted by Cast of Cheers frontman Conor Adams, have had a bit of a whirlwind beginning to their life. Only a few months old and with less live dates than you have fingers on your right hand, Charmers will take their next step when they take to the stage as part of eLive this Thursday evening in the Workman's Club in Dublin alongside Croupier, Maud In Cahoots and Color//Sound.

John Balfe caught up with Conor for a quick chat ahead of the show.

Can you tell us a little about how Charmers came into being?

Dave [Green, drummer] and I were in loads of bands together when we were teenagers and in our early twenties. One day in March we were chatting and thought it might be fun to have a jam. We went into it without any preconceived ideas so whatever music came out of it was gonna be us - Big dumb rock tunes... our guilty pleasure. There was no goal, just an excuse to hang out.

Was the support slot to And So I Watch You From Afar's recent Dublin gigs in Whelan's your first ever gig? That's not a bad place to start..

Yeah, playing with ASIWYFA was our first ever show. It was crazy to play with such an amazing band for our first show!! We had only jammed a handful of times, so for us it was more a matter of wetting our heads. We learned a lot from the set we played; quiet bridges dont work with just a bass and drums... give it socks from start to finish.

Was there ever any thought to expanding Charmers beyond a two-piece?

Not really. Charmers is an excuse for Dave and I to hang out. We live on different sides of the city now and don't get to chat as much as we'd like... so we made a band. Being part of a 2-piece is just so simple. The organisation and logistics of it all is a zero on the 'pain in the arse' scale. If we brought someone else in too, it would suggest that we're trying to be a real band...

'All The World' is the first real slice of Charmers that has made its way online. Are you planning to add to that soon?

Yeah. Every time we get together we knock out another 5 or so new tunes. The key is getting tunes that we really like playing. Hopefully during the summer we can record some more stuff and get it out there.

Have you a plan for the band over the course of the next few months? I suppose the generally accepted route would be to put out and EP, but is that the route that you want to take?

Over the next few months we're probably gonna record an EP or maybe an album. We have enough tunes for either, its just finding the time. Theres other musical endeavours being explored at the minute outside of Charmers (as its a side project) so we'll see what happens. A triple post fusion acoustic album probably... available for the princely sum of a euro?
