It’s midday in Stradbally and Electric Picnic is slowly rousing itself for another day. The sun is still shining, even if there are a couple of showers forecast for later in the day. But let’s face it, it almost wouldn’t feel like an authentic Irish festival experience without a brief rain shower. Still, though, we wouldn’t particular mind if it didn’t show face this year.

Today’s musical highlights will include The Cure, Villagers, The Roots, Grimes, Le Galaxie – and no doubt countless other things that we stumble upon. Yesterday’s heroes The Strypes will also be playing their second Picnic set of the weekend this evening at the American Trailer Trash stage sometime between 6 and 7pm. If you missed them yesterday on the Body & Soul stage, don’t miss ‘em today – take our word for that.

Speaking of yesterday’s music, last night’s main stage act Sigur Ros delivered one of the best Picnic performances in recent memory. Grandaddy, the aforementioned Strypes and Roots Manuva are also worthy of note for what was a thoroughly excellent first day’s entertainment. Now, for more of the same!

On the food side of things, among the many tempting options we eventually opted for a Gourmet Burger – delicious – but today is our Pie Minister day. It’s a festival tradition at this point.
