Gone are the days of 'X-Factor' past - and we miss them dearly. Ten years ago, Alexandra Burke won 'X-Factor' series five, and here's a look back at what a knockout that series was.

It was Cheryl Cole's first series on the judging panel. And during the audition process, she met a 14-year-old Liam Payne for the first time. Who'd have guessed what was to come? Poor Liam got knocked out at Judges' Houses however - probably for the best, really.

2008's 'X-Factor' series five was the year that Eoghan Quigg made all of the mammies proud that we had an Irishman through to the live episodes. His placement in the show also introduced the UK to one of our most wrongly-pronounced names.

Not only did Eoghan finish in third place that year, he also went out with fellow contestant Diana Vickers. You'll remember her - she's the one who was sued by Red Hot Chili Peppers - and we haven't heard from Diana ever since.

'X-Factor' series five was also the year we had this absolute corker of a contestant. Meet holistic vocal coach Ariel Burdett, who ensured each and every judge had the absolute fear of God put into them. So that's them, and everyone at home then.

Of course, with Louis Walsh on the judging panel, there was bound to be some more Irish influence on the 'X-Factor'. And for JLS' celebrity collaboration for the finalists, they got to sing a duet with none other than Westlife...

While Alexandra Burke performed with Beyonce, and tried to keep it together.

Britney Spears turned up during the series to perform her new single 'Womanizer', and the video doesn't seem to have aged well. So much unused space.

In the end, Alexandra Burke won the singing competition with her single 'Hallelujah'. She went on to secure Christmas number ones both in Ireland and the UK that year, and we're sure is pretty happy with the knowledge that it's the biggest-selling 'X-Factor' winner's single ever.
