It's safe to say that even three days on from The Late Late Toy Show, the nation is still buzzing from the pick-me-up that we all needed.
One of the highlights of the show, of course, was Dermot Kennedy surprising 14-year-old Michael Maloney when he was performing Kennedy's song 'Giants'.
The talented teenager, who lost his dad several years ago, later confessed that he initially thought Kennedy's voice was a backing track, before he turned to see him. The heartwarming moment that he realised his idol was standing next to him was truly lovely.
Kennedy echoed the nation's sentiments in his tweet yesterday, saying "It felt like The Late Late Toy Show gave our whole country a bit of a boost the other night, at the end of such a hard year.
"Those kids do such a good job of reminding us what’s truly important. It’s such a special event, and I’m so so glad I could play a small part in it. Performing my song with Michael was an absolute pleasure. Thank you."

So many kids have been forgotten during this pandemic and it’s hit the hard too. What you did for Michael, Dermot, was so special. His face gets me every time I see this. He’s very talented and I’m sure he will treasure those memories forever.

That was so good, the way you took second stage and allowed the young lad to shine - almost as much as his eyes shone when he realised who was accompanying him. Also so good that the show was stripped back to highlight the kids and not the commercial aspect of overpriced toys

When Michael saw you omg his face the sense of disbelief and joy at the same time . This for me is the highlight of the year . Cant stop watching it and crying every time . Well done Dermot . Cant wait to see you in Cork soon .

You played a blinder Dermot, allowed Michael own the stage but supported him through what was clearly a life changing experience
Michael will treasure that moment for life ?
