The Burning Man festival - the long-running music and arts event that takes place in the Nevada - has become synonymous with the counterculture movement and experimentation in the arts.

In short, it's the sort of festival that David Bowie probably would have loved, so it makes sense that part of his ashes have reportedly been scattered there.

Although Bowie allegedly stipulated that his ashes were to be scattered in Bali,E! Online is reporting that his godchild received permission from Bowie's widow Iman to scatter a portion of his ashes at the recent week-long festival.

They report a source as saying: "David's godchild and David had long talks about Burning Man and what it stands for, and David loved the message behind it."

A ceremony, attended by 70 people, was held at the festival's 'Temple' - a structure built for festival attendees to pay tribute to their departed loved ones, which is burned to the ground at the end of the week - was held for Bowie, with an eyewitness saying: "We played his music the entire drive from our camp to the Temple and back. Most of us had the Bowie [lightning bolt] face paint on in his honor."
