Much loved Cork band Fred have decided to call it a day after 15 years and four albums.

A statement issued by the band today said: "We have enjoyed our time making music together immensely but simply it's now time for us to move on. We would like to thank all our fans, friends, families who have supported us over the years. We also offer a big thank you to all of the artists who we have had the pleasure of sharing stages with and the all of the venues who continue to promote live music."

Fred have earned a reputation of being one the country's most hardworking independent acts over the last decade. Over their 15 year career including Fred have played hundreds of shows around the world including Halifax Jazz festival, Hillside festival, Pop Montreal, NXNE & CMW in Canada, CMJ appearances in NYC, Bergen festival, Norway and on Irish soil The Electric Picnic, Oxygen, The Mid-Summers festival & The Galway Arts festival to name but a few.

The end isn't immediate, though. Fred will play a series of farewell shows in December including Whelan’s, December 13th De Barra’s Clonakilty and December 15th Róisín Dubh, Galway. The final ever Fred show will take place in the Pavilion, Cork on December 28th and where for the first time in Fred history every member of the band past and present will share the same stage.
