Coldplay's A Rush of Blood to the Head has topped a poll of Radio 2 listeners to determine the best album ever made, with Keane's Hopes and Fears also - somewhat inexplicably - in second place.

No offense intended to fans of Coldplay or Keane, but even the most fervent of followers of those two bands would struggle to hoist those records into contention with the likes of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, The Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers and The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, all of which featured elsewhere in the top ten.

Jo Whiley oversaw the list, which aired yesterday, and we're relatively certain that it wasn't an April Fool's gag. Again, not to diminish the influence of Coldplay and Keane but we're fairly confident when we say that the two best albums ever made didn't come up in the past 11 years.

The top ten was:

1. Coldplay 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' (2002)
2. Keane 'Hopes and Fears' (2004)
3. Duran Duran 'Rio' (1982)
4. Pink Floyd 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' (1973)
5. Dido 'No Angel' (1999)
6. The Rolling Stones 'Sticky Fingers' (1971)
7. The Pet Shop Boys 'Actually' (1987)
8. The Beatles 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' (1967)
9. U2 'The Joshua Tree' (1987)
10. Queen 'A Night At The Opera' (1975)
