Bloc Party revealed details of their new single on Zane Lowe's radio show last night.

'Mercury' is released on August 8th, and is taken from the band's third album (produced by Jacknife Lee and Paul Epworth), which could be released before the end of 2008.

Frontman Kele Okereke said: "It's a song we finished a little while ago that we're really proud of so we thought we'd let everyone hear it. I'm still somewhat in awe."

When asked about the album's recording, he said: "I think we're making the record I always wanted us to make. We're kind of just in the middle of it, we're still writing songs and mixing stuff."

Bloc Party support The Killers at Marlay Park on August 21st.
