A Clinton is running for office. MTV is now showing Beavis & Butthead again and Smashing Pumpkins are close to announcing a new tour.
No, friends, we haven't gone back to the '90s, but it's definitely starting to look like it. Billy Corgan, the leader of the '90s grunge outfit, recently made comments on Facebook that he's working on something big, but stopped short of precisely what.
However, a report surfaced online from Consequence of Sound yesterday that claims Corgan is shopping a reunion tour of the original lineup of Smashing Pumpkins to venues and festivals in the US and abroad.
For those that don't know, the original lineup was Billy Corgan on guitar and vocals, James Iha on lead guitar, D'Arcy Wretzky on bass and Jimmy Chamberlin on drums. After a hugely acrimonious split, the band went their separate ways although Corgan continued on with a new, shortlived band called Zwan and, finally, his own solo efforts.
However, it appears bygones are bygones as it now appears that Corgan and the rest of the band have healed their various rifts. Corgan appeared on stage with two of the former members of Smashing Pumpkins at various points earlier this year, which has only further fuelled rumours of a reunion tour.
Although the twentieth anniversary of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness has been and gone, there's still plenty of people who want to see Smashing Pumpkins reunite to begin touring and recording again.
The question is, will it happen? Let's hope so.
