Liam Gallagher's Beady Eye have been forced to cancel a series of live dates after the band's guitarist Gem Archer was hospitalised after suffering severe head trauma suffered on the evening of August 1st.

The nature of the guitarist's injury has yet to be disclosed to the media but it is understood that an update on his condition will be released shortly.

A statement on Beady Eye's official website read as follows: ''Following an accident on the evening of Thursday August 1st, Beady Eye guitarist Gem Archer was hospitalised with severe head trauma.

''He is currently in a stable condition but continues to stay in hospital under observation. As previously reported, shows this week in Belgium and Japan have been cancelled.

''His family, friends and bandmates thank everyone who have sent messages of support and well wishes so far and hope to see him back on his feet soon. An update on his condition will follow.''

Beady Eye have pulled out of concerts in Belgium and Japan as a result of the incident and an update is expected soon to determine whether or not Archer will be fit for the band's V Festival appearance on August 17th.
