One of Ireland's most enduring bands were gearing up for one of the biggest gigs of their career this weekend - but unfortunately, Aslan have had to cancel their 3Arena gig.

The Dublin band were due to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a gig at the 3Arena on Saturday, but with frontman Christy Dignam suffering a health setback, the big celebration has been pulled.

The band issued a statement saying:

"Everything was going so well coming up to our 3Arena show and Christy was doing great. However, he has suffered a setback with his treatment, and we have now been instructed by his doctors that it is not advisable for Christy to perform this Saturday.

“Christy, Joe, Alan & Billy are beyond devastated to have to share this news with you. We are working to find a new date at 3Arena, so do hold on to your tickets, as they will be fully valid for the rescheduled date.

“As you all know, Christy’s health is priority and we also have to respect his privacy at these times.

“Stay with us, Aslan.”

Joe, Alan and Billy also posted a video to Twitter, apologising for the cancellation and particularly for the fans who had planned to travel for the gig - but urged fans to hold on to tickets as the gig 'will be rescheduled.'

Dignam was diagnosed with amyloidosis in 2013, which is a rare and incurable form of blood cancer. He has been receiving treatment since then.

Get well soon, Christy!
