Ariana Grande is being lined up to become an honorary citizen of Manchester for her charity work for the city over the last few weeks.

The American star organised the One Love Manchester concert, which took place on June 4th, to raise money for the victims of the bombing which had taken place at her concert on May 22nd, where 22 people were killed and dozens injured.

The concert raised more than £3 million for the victims' fund and council leader Sir Richard Leese said that Grande's honorary citizenship - the first of its kind, which recognises 'outstanding contributions' to the city - would be a 'fitting moment to update the way we recognise those who make noteworthy contributions to the life and success of our city."

He added: "We've all had cause to be incredibly proud of Manchester and the resilient and compassionate way in which the city, and all those associated with it, have responded to the terrible events of 22 May - with love and courage rather than hatred and fear", and that Grande had 'exemplified' that response.

The One Love Manchester concert was attended by 50,000 people and was watched by over 11 million people on TV in the UK - making it the biggest TV event of 2017 so far.
