Arcade Fire have announced that they will donate up to  one million Canadian dollars to help rebuild towns in Haiti after the terrible earthquake that hit the island six months ago. The Canadian indie giants have offered to match every $5 donation made to the charity Kanpe by texting the word "STAND" to 30333.

The band made the announcement during Monday night's Quebec Summer Festival show. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Régine Chassagne has already been active in efforts to help rebuild the devastated country where her family has roots. Chassagne is, in fact, the Grand Ambassador for Kanpe, a non-profit organisation which has pledged to rebuild Haiti one village at a time.
