Yesterday evening, three of Dublin's best independent record shops hosted the launch of the Hard Working Class Heroes Festival 2009. The celebration featured three bands in three different venues. The touring party saw Biggles Fly Again at Freebird Records on Wicklow St, The Ambience Affair at Road Records as well as And So I Watch You From Afar at Tower. Lets hope they show their faces at the actual festival as well. It takes place in venues in and around Temple Bar from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th of October. While Meeting House Square has been taken off the venue list due to last year's bad weather (it was bloody freezing, very few people turned up), there'll once again be gigs taking place in Andrew's Lane Theatre, The Button Factory, Academy 2, Eamon Doran's as well as new HWCH venues Think Tank and the Twisted Pepper.

HWCH have opened the doors for applications from bands and photographers to be part of the festival. Writers, A&R and music industry people will choose the top 100 entries to make up their three day line up of some of Ireland's best emerging talents. If you're a photographer or part of a band, and would like to take part in HWCH 2009, you can apply at www.hwch.net. Band Applications will go through FMC's 'Breaking Tunes' website.

Tickets are the same as last year, and still reasonably priced at €18.50 per day, and €40 for the whole weekend.
