It's a sad day for Irish music, as the excellent and thoroughly underrated Dublin electro-pop band Alphastates announce their final ever gig.

Over the course of their career, the group released two fantastic albums, 2004's Made From Sand and last year's Human Nature. When we spoke to frontwoman Catherine Dowling last year, she was as big as a house, and has since had a baby girl, so it's hardly surprising that the group has chosen to wind down and play their last gig at Whelan's on Thursday February 18th. They were unique on the Dublin music scene and will be sorely missed.

Tickets for the gig are priced at €10 and support comes from The DC Experiment.
