Metal band Alice In Chains are to record their first album in thirteen years - and their first since lead singer Layne Staley died in 2002.

The Seattle band will replace drug overdose victim Staley with new singer William DuVall, when they head into the studio next month.

They released a statement saying: "October will arrive and Alice In Chains will reconvene to record the new album. So, as 2008, winds down, band activity will be gearing up, and at some point in 2009 you'll finally hear what I've been raving about for the last several months."

Their last album was 1995's 'Alice In Chains'.
