The sun is set to come out this week, and so is our optimism for new albums in 2019.

We're well and truly in the thick of 2019 now and we're hoping these five female artists have some new material up their sleeves. As we move down our list of five, we go from most likely to release new albums in 2019, to least likely. But that only means one thing... surprise album drops.

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been quite vocal about wanting to release new music before turning 30 in December of 2019. Swifties believed in March that the singer was counting down to something on her social media, but it all turned out to be speculation.

However, if you head over to Swift's website right now, the 'Bad Blood' singer appears to certainly be counting down to something. Whether this is a countdown to new music, a new documentary, a new clothing range, or maybe she's just very excited for 'Avengers: Endgame' - we have no idea. We'll just have to patiently wait until April 26th to find out.

While not starring in 'Guava Island' with Donald Glover, or the all-female reboot of 'Ocean's Eight', Rihanna has been working hard on her ninth studio album. Confirming on her social media that new music is coming in 2019, and rumoured to be a double album release, we still aren't any closer to getting a release date.

Last we heard from the singer was in December, when she responded to a fan asking when the new album will be out with a simple "2019." Music producer The-Dream said that "She’s currently recording two albums – one full of chart-friendly songs, and another made up of moody and experimental tracks – and is considering releasing a double disc if she feels the songs won’t mesh well on the same album." We reckon a release is around the corner very soon. And hey, at least this cute little kid got to approve the album before the rest of us.

Apart from sharing her excitement about Beyoncé's new Netflix documentary, or the Spice Girls reunion, Adele normally keeps quite quiet on her social media channels and doesn't give too much away.

However, rumours have spread like wildfire that Adele is to release a new album late in 2019. Her follow-up to 2015's '25' reportedly began recording last summer, with the singer having already penned some of the tracks. Although we don't know for sure when the album might release, we do have at least one big clue to the LP's title. Speaking to James Corden during her Carpool Karaoke appearance, Adele said that '25' was "the last album after my age. I believe in trilogies, yeah. The next one is just gonna be ‘Adele.'" Adele's fourth effort could be one of the biggest new albums of 2019.

Lady Gaga

Apart from starring in 'A Star Is Born' and helping pen the original soundtrack with Bradley Cooper, Mark Ronson, and Lukas Nelson, the singer hasn't released new solo work since 2016's 'Joanne'. Could a new release be on the horizon later this year? Perhaps.

Batting away at pregnancy rumours last month, Gaga took to Twitter to poke fun with fans. She tweeted, "Rumors I’m pregnant? Yeah, I’m pregnant with #LG6." So, at least we know she's working on the album - but when we hear new music is anyone's guess.

This is the one person on our list who is most likely to drop a surprise album. Having already done it before, there's no doubt that Beyoncé could easily do it to us again.

A recent collaboration with her husband Jay-Z 'Everything Is Love' meant that Beyoncé hasn't released a solo effort since 2016's 'Lemonade'. However, the singer is set to voice Nala in Disney's upcoming live-action version of 'The Lion King' and is also said to have worked with Elton John and Tim Rice on new songs for the movie. So although we technically will get new Beyoncé music this year, the jury's out on whether a solo effort is on the cards also.
