The UK's Official Chart Company has predicted that this year will be the highest selling period for singles in history. Single sales have increased by 2.5% from last year's total at this point of the year, a figure which set the singles sale record itself.

What's interesting about this year's record is that Pharrell Williams features on the top two selling singles of the year; Daft Punk's 'Get Lucky' and Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines', which sold over 1,000,000 and 828,000 copies respectively. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' 'Thrift Shop' places some way behind in third with 680,000 units moved.

As for album sales, Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events is the biggest selling record of 2013, with 658,000 UK sales so far even though it was released last year.
