Hearing about a band or artist's influences and inspirations are all well and good, but sometimes, you just want to get to the nitty-gritty in an interview - like, 'what's your favourite takeaway dish'?

Our new Q&A series sees us throwing rapidfire questions at musicians to get their most instinctive answers. There's no beating around the bush here - just honest, straightforward insights into their creative minds.

Cork brothers True Tides spent much of last establishing themselves as a buzz band with gigs throughout Ireland. Now, the trio – Cian, Conor and Eoghan McSweeny - have just released new single 'Survive' – a pop banger with an empowering message.

To celebrate its release, we asked lead singer Cian to answer entertainment.ie's 10 Questions...

1. What's the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
We were hugely influenced by our parents' taste in music, which was pretty varied. Stuff like The Police would still get regular play from me.

2. In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Really amped up.

3. How do you wind down after a gig?
We try to meet and chat with our fans straight after our show if we can! It can be strange going into a small dressing room straight after the buzz of a gig, so it’s much better to share that feeling with the people who came to see you!

4. What’s the one song you wish you’d written or recorded first?
'All These Things That I’ve Done' by The Killers. Anthemic pop perfection!

5. You can only have three albums on your phone/in your house at any one time - what three would you pick for today?
Been listening to these three albums a lot lately, so I’m gonna go with:
Sam Fender - 'Hypersonic Missiles'
The 1975 - 'I Like It When you Sleep…'
Marvin Gaye - 'What’s Going On'

6. Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Album: Marvin Gaye - 'What’s Going On'
Book: Jon Ronson - 'So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed'
Movie: 'Monty Python’s Life Of Brian'

7. Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
Director: Michael Bay (because it’s gonna need lots of explosions)
Actors: The Jonas Brothers

8. You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
Nearly always Thai.

9. Describe your perfect day off.
It’s rare we take a day off, but the perfect one would be going for a surf out Wesht.

10. Tell us, in one sentence, why we should come to your gig.
We put on a high energy, inclusive, feelgood show; so come along if you want your spirits lifted!

BONUS QUESTION: Recommend a podcast and tell us why we should subscribe to it.
I absolutely love the podcast “Hanging Out With Audiophiles” by Jamie Lidell. A performer and producer himself, he interviews some of the biggest producers and writers around and always gets great stories and insights from them.
