Ocean Alley are one of Australia’s most promising musical exports, with their most recent album amassing over 15 million global streams.

Last year alone saw the band perform 65 shows around the world, selling 75,000+ tickets, and they’re steadily gaining ground with their brand of rock that has been described as a “cruisey psych, rock and reggae fusion".

Ocean Alley play Dublin’s Vicar Street on June 18th, so we caught up with keyboardist Lach Galbraith to learn more.

1. What’s the music that you listened to growing up, that you still listen to today?
When I was growing up, my dad on a Saturday would always play artists like Bee Gees, Dave Matthews Band, Electric Light Orchestra when he was cleaning the house. I still listen to them now.

2. In three words, describe the minute before you walk on stage.
Electrified, focused, excited.

3. How do you wind down after a gig?
Keep it cruisey with a couple of beers with the other guys backstage, and we'll usually go over how we think we just did on stage.

4. What’s the one song (by another artist) you wish you’d written or recorded first?
‘Black Hole Sun’ by Soundgarden .

5. What is your pet peeve?
People that queue around the baggage carousel at airports. Just stand back, wait until you see your bag, then step in and collect. STOP STANDING IN FRONT OF EVERYONE’S WAY!

6. Name one record, one book and one film that everyone should hear / read / see.
Record: ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ by Pink Floyd
Book: ‘Across the Nightingale Floor’ by Lian Hearn
Film: ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’

7. Pick the director and lead actor(s) for a biopic about your life.
I'd like to go for a palatable ‘arty’ style so I would use Wes Anderson as the director, and starring Hugh Dancy, simply because of his likeness to me.

8. You’re ordering take-away, what do you get?
Depends on what I had the night before, but maybe a chicken curry with a garlic naan. That always travels well.

9. Describe your perfect day off.
Going for a walk in the morning with my dog and partner, followed by a bit of exercise. Lunch at the pub with some mates, back home in the arvo to cook some dinner, watch a movie and fall asleep before the end.

10. Tell us, in one sentence, why we should come to your next gig (whenever it may be.)
Because you’ll come in feeling cool and keen, and then leave feeling hot, sweaty, and bothered.
