A woman unwittingly chooses to upend her marriage during a wilderness vacation in this comedy-drama from Chilean director Alicia Scherson. Carla (Aline Kuppenheim) is a scientist in her mid-thirties who isn't happy in her marriage to Joel (Marcelo Alonso), but she lacks the nerve to do anything about it. Rather than simply breaking up with him, Carla decides to force the issue during a camping trip by confessing to Joel that she's recently had an abortion but decided not to ask him first. Joel responds by abandoning Carla in the woods, and she finds herself hitching a ride back to town when he meets Ulrik (Diego Noguera), a student from Norway in his early twenties. Ulrik offers to share his campsite with Carla as she figure out her next move, and the two begin to bond, discovering they both find themselves lost and out of sorts at different points in their life and aren't sure they belong in the natural world. Turistas (aka Tourists) received its United States premiere at the 2009 Los Angeles Film Festival.~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
