Steven Spielberg's version of 'West Side Story' received critical acclaim upon its release last year. It also bagged seven Oscar nominations including Best Picture and Best Director.

Rachel Zegler, who played Maria in the adaptation, was one of its breakout stars. However, it seems that despite the movie's success, that wasn't enough to snatch an invite to the 94th Oscars Ceremony.

On a post on her Instagram, the Golden Globe winner claimed that she won't be making an appearance on the red carpet. "I have tried it all but it doesn't seem to be happening," Zegler wrote in a reply to a fan.

"I will root for 'West Side Story' from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago. I hope some last minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate with our film in person but hey, that's how it goes sometimes." She added, "I'm disappointed, too. But that's okay. So proud of our movie."

According to a source of Entertainment Weekly, the studios behind nominated films determine ticket allotments for Best Picture nominees, adding that circumstances are different for nominees and presenters.

Zegler followed up her comments on Twitter following the response from her fans.

Zegler tweeted "my goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, I really really do. We live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. That goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in London) and awards shows alike. Let’s all just respect the process and I’ll get off my phone."

Zegler will star in the titular role of Disney's upcoming 'Snow White' live action adaptation.

The 94th Academy Awards take place on March 27.
