People being stranded in inhospitable situations has long been staple Hollywood fare. Films like Open Water, Cast Away and the upcoming Gravity have tackled the survival theme and it's going to get another airing with the new Robert Redford movie All Is Lost.

Directed by J.C. Chandor, who helmed the outstanding Margin Call, All Is Lost features Redford as a sailor who runs into trouble in the middle of a solo trip and his ensuing struggle to survive.

Redford is the solitary cast member in the movie, which features almost no dialogue whatsoever. We wonder whether Redford still has the acting chops to pull off this sort of role but initial reviews seem to be almost unanimous in their praise for the movie.

Look for the movie sometime this October.
