You can now watch the opening scene of 'Mortal Kombat', courtesy of HBO Max and Warner Bros., ahead of its US debut.

'Mortal Kombat' lands in theatres this Friday (April 23rd).

It is available to stream on HBO Max from the same day (it is free to rent on the streaming service from 31 days after its theatrical release).

The movie stars Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, Mehcad Brooks, Ludi Lin, Chin Han, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

The latter features in the clip that has been released, playing Hanzo Hasashi.

Hasashi's life is forever changed when his compound is attacked by a few uninvited visitors.

Expect tragedy and a cliffhanger at the end.

'Mortal Kombat' primarily follows MMA fighter Cole Young, who is unaware of his heritage.

Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer and warrior, is out for him.

Thus Cole leaves home to protest his family and to find out answers to where he comes from.

Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden and under the tutelage of experienced warriors.

He'll stand with Earth’s greatest champions in an epic battle against the enemies of Outworld for the universe.
