It appeared for a while that James Cameron's Avatar had the Academy Award for Best Picture in the bag, but last Sunday's Baftas have thrown a spanner in the works by awarding the top prize to Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker. The Baftas, along with The Golden Globes, are usually a very strong indicator as to how the Academy has been voting and it's looking more and more likely that Bigelow's film about an IED disposal unit in Iraq may just pull off a come-from-behind victory.

In the other categories, Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock seem favourites to win the top two acting awards, while the amazing Christoph Waltz and Mo'Nique appear to already have one hand on the supporting actor gongs.
