Top Gun 2 may still happen - damn near 25 years after the original Old Spice ad' masquerading as a movie made its theatrical debut. Hey, I still liked it...
According to Ny Magazine, Vulture, the main players involved with the original would be coming back - except Don Simpson, he's in the S&M dungeon in the sky. That means Tony Scott would be helming again, with Tom Cruise starring, and the man with the whitest teeth I've ever seen in person, Jerry Bruckheimer, producing. The news that moves some way to exciting me at the possibility of a sequel is that The Usual Suspects Oscar winning writer, Christopher McQuarrie, will apparently pen the script. The Way of the Gun helmer also churned out the screenplay for recent Cruise flick, Valkyrie.
There's every chance this won't actually happen. But with Cruise, Bruckheimer and Scott all in need of a massive hit, this is probably the most likely time for it to go into production. Somewhere, Taylor Launter's agent just gave himself whiplash diving for the phone.
