If you haven't seen 'No Way Home', turn back now and go see it in the cinema - you've been warned.
Less than two weeks ago, following months and months of denial from everyone associated with 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', fans were finally able to find out if all of the rumours were indeed true. Were Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield about to return as their respective wall-climbers? It must have been agony for movie stars Tom Holland and Zendaya.
Despite images from the set leaking online, everyone associated with the film was able to keep their mouth's shut, which is especially impressive when you consider Holland's reputation in this regard. Hell, even Garfield managed to keep it together while being grilled earlier this year. All in all, it was worth keeping fans in the dark (with cinema screens everywhere erupting in cheers of joy).
'Spider-Man: No Way Home' managed to do the seemingly impossible, introducing the Multiverse and bringing back the two previous incarnations of Peter Parker, as well as five of his villainous antagonists. There was also a scene officially introducing Charlie Cox's Daredevil into the MCU, meaning that fans really got all of their Christmasses at once while watching the two hour and 30 minutes epic.
Marvel.com had the pleasure of chatting with Tom Holland and Zendaya ahead of the film's theatrical release where they chatted all about working with their extremely secret on-set actors, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
Holland joked about Maguire: "T-McG. Man, he was so funny. He was really excited to be back. You could tell it really meant a lot to him. Him putting the suit on again. Us getting back together. It was awesome."
While Zendaya said it felt like dropping Holland off to school on the first day of filming with both Maguire and Garfield: "Like dropping you off at kindergarten for the first day. Like, 'I hope the other kids like him.' And like, 'I hope he doesn't come back crying'. And so we were just there, and I was taking pictures of you guys so that you could have it. It was so cute."
On Garfield returning, Holland said the actor could finally "make peace" with his character: "Andrew Garfield, the legend himself. He's such a lovely guy. I think this film was his way of making peace with Spider-Man. It was such a privilege to work with him. I know that it meant a lot to him."
Zendaya summed up the whole experience by saying: "It was so beautiful. [Tobey, Andrew, and Tom] care so deeply about the characters, and what their characters— what their journey had been as Spider-Man. It was so beautiful to see all of you guys connect on that and be able to talk to each other about such a special experience that very few people have been able to don the suit. It was great to see how much you guys all really cared and had each other's back. It was really sweet."
Since its debut in cinemas on December 15, 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' has managed to become the highest-grossing film of 2021. Yes, not even two weeks at the global box office and the Sony/Marvel venture has earned a whopping $1 billion globally; the first pandemic movie to complete such a feat.
It really isn't a surprise, especially when you consider the buzz surrounding the film in the run-up to its release. The third solo outing for Holland's Peter Parker had more pre-sale tickets sold than 'Avengers: Endgame', which is currently the second highest-grossing film of all time.
