Having already earned the reputation of being "America's Dad", it makes plenty of sense that Tom Hanks could play Pinocchio's dad too.

The Oscar winning actor is in early talks to play the gentle, caring toy maker Gepetto.

In case you missed it before, Disney are looking through their animated classics for yet another live-action remake.

This time it's 'Pinocchio's turn.

The casting of Hanks also makes perfect sense given it's Robert Zemeckis helming the reboot.

The director previously worked with the actor in 'Forrest Gump', 'Cast Away' and 'The Polar Express'.

Before Zemeckis was hired, both Sam Mendes and 'Paddington' director Paul King were meant to direct.

Chris Weitz, whose credits include 'Rogue One' and the 'Cinderella' remake, is penning the script and producing.

The original 'Pinocchio' hit cinemas in 1940.

In spite being a box office flop, it became the first animated feature to win an Oscar, earning two for Best Music and Best Original Song ("When You Wish Upon a Star").

It is now widely considered to be one of Disney's best and one of the greatest animated films ever made.

Tom Hanks last starred in 'Greyhound' which premiered on Apple+ in July. He also wrote the screenplay for the movie.

He's also due to star in Baz Luhrmann's Elvis Presley biopic in which he plays Colonel Tom Parker. Shooting for it was postponed earlier this year.

There's no release date for the 'Pinocchio' remake yet. Production is set to start in late 2020.
