A biopic on Bob Marley's life and career is currently in the works, with Marley's own son - Ziggy Marley - set to lead the film.

While details are light and no director has been attached, Deadline's reporting that Paramount Studios are working with Ziggy Marley to get the film up and running. Bob Marley died young at the age of 36, but in that short space of time, created some of the most recognisable reggae songs and effectively brought the genre itself into the mainstream.

There's been plenty of documentaries on Marley's life and career down through the years, the most acclaimed being Kevin MacDonald's 2012 effort which featured rare and unseen footage from live performances and in studio. What'll likely make or break this film is not only song access, but how it's received by longtime fans of Marley's work and music.

No release date has been set as of yet, but expect this one to garner a huge amount of interest.
